FAQ’S
Early spring and early fall are the ideal times for planting. During these cooler seasons, plants can direct their energy into root growth without the stress of extreme summer heat or frozen winter soil, ensuring smoother establishment.
The hole should be dug 2 to 3 times wider than the root ball, but only as deep as the root ball itself. Planting too deep can suffocate root systems, so the flare where the trunk meets the roots must sit level with or slightly above the surrounding soil grade.
Newly planted trees and shrubs require deep watering 2 to 3 times per week for the first few months, depending on rainfall and weather conditions. Deep, infrequent watering encourages deep root growth better than frequent light surface sprinklings.
A 2-to-3-inch layer of organic mulch retains soil moisture, regulates root temperature, and suppresses weed growth. Keep mulch pulled back a few inches from the main trunk or stems to prevent moisture buildup that leads to rot and pest infestation.
Not all trees require staking. Staking is typically reserved for top-heavy trees, saplings planted in high-wind zones, or bare-root stock. Allowing a young tree to sway slightly in normal winds actually helps build a stronger trunk and resilient root structure.
